Michael Irvine

Michael (Sarod) studied North Indian Classical music (sarod, tabla and vocal) for 22 years with the musical maestros Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Swapan Chaudhuri. Michael is also an accomplished guitarist and vocalist, performing in classical, jazz and pop styles. He was a full-time member of the Music Department staff at College of Marin for 27 years and performs in a variety of musical genres and venues throughout the Bay Area. Michael is the founder of Swar Sangam (“a confluence of notes”), a performing group which provides quality North Indian classical and non-classical music for numerous venues. Most recently, he is the leader and guitarist/vocalist for the jazz group For The Moment.
